Abstract

Database access control models are important for multi-user applications because different users, roles, departments, and system services require different levels of permission to view, insert, update, delete, and manage data. Multi-user applications often handle sensitive records, shared transactions, administrative functions, audit logs, and business workflows, where weak access control can lead to unauthorized data changes, privacy violations, security breaches, and operational errors. Traditional user-based permission handling may become difficult to manage when the number of users, roles, and database objects increases. This article focuses on database access control models for multi-user applications by examining discretionary access control, mandatory access control, role-based access control, attribute-based access control, privilege assignment, authentication, authorization, and audit monitoring. The study discusses how structured access control can protect data integrity, reduce security risk, support compliance, and simplify permission management. The article concludes that effective database access control is essential for secure, reliable, and accountable operation of multi-user software applications.
