Abstract

Data migration risk management is important in enterprise software projects because large organizations often move critical business records from legacy systems, databases, ERP platforms, CRM applications, billing systems, and reporting environments into new software architectures. Migration activities face risks such as data loss, duplicate records, incorrect mapping, format mismatch, incomplete transformation, broken relationships, downtime, security exposure, and weak validation after transfer. Traditional migration planning may focus mainly on moving data from source to target systems, but it may not fully address operational, technical, and business risks that can affect system reliability after deployment. This article focuses on data migration risk management in enterprise software projects by examining data profiling, risk identification, source-to-target mapping, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, rollback planning, access control, and phased migration execution. The study discusses how structured risk management can reduce migration failures, protect data integrity, support business continuity, and improve confidence in modernized enterprise systems. The article concludes that effective data migration risk management is essential for reliable system transition, reduced operational disruption, improved data quality, and successful enterprise software implementation.
